[cobirds] 2021 North Jeffco CBC

On December19th, the North Jeffco CBC was held on a chilly but very nice day.  As you may know, this is a very new CBC held only for the third year.  Once again, we had a very successful count seeing 105 species, which is just one short of our record. Our only miss was a Long-tailed Duck that left the day before when Tucker Lake froze.  This count was successful because of the dedication and committment of everyone involved.  We had only 36 skilled birders in the field and four feeder counters.  Everyone on the count bought into the importance of the CBC and the recording of accurate data.  Every rare or uncommon bird requires a photo or recording to be counted in the numbers. We are also making an effort to reach out to the community to explain the importance of this count.  Next year, we should at least triple the number of feeder counters who want to contribute to this data.  The stars of this year's count were Patti Echelmeyer (founder of the Tuesday Birders) and Bob Butterly, who had Harris's Sparrow and Gray Catbird at their feeders.  The unsung heroes were Chris McCallister and Donna Stump who did an amazing job in the background organizing this great count!!!  This count is only going to get better!!! Let us know if you want to join this great count next year.

Best Birds:

2 Black and White Warblers!!!--I couldn't believe when I found one 300 yards north when another counter was looking at one near parking lot!
