[cobirds] Some spots still left for Heather Swanson's "Little Dogs of the Prairie"

Cute? Yes.   A problem? Maybe.   Important? Yes, a critical keystone species.    Brought to you by the Boulder County Nature Association.

Little Dogs of the Prairie
Heather Swanson
Indoor class: Thursday, June 8, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Field class: Saturday, June 10, 8:30 am - 12 pm, $60 per person

Nothing brings out people's passions more than a discussion about prairie dogs! Whether you love or hate them, we share a long and complicated history. These fascinating rodents have an intricate social system and share complex relationships with many other species. Our native prairie, and many of its plants and animals, depend on these charismatic little burrowers. Learn about their biology, behavior, and ecological importance, as well as many species that share close ecological relationships with them. We will also explore our own complex coexistence with them here along the urban Front Range. These sessions will take place in and near Boulder.

Heather is a Senior Wildlife Ecologist with City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks. She received her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Colorado. While she works with a variety of species, for the last 12 years she's been involved with Boulder County and City of Boulder OSMP on prairie dog and grassland conservation and management issues.
