Even I need a day off from time to time, and that day was on April 15th, when the floodgates for rarities opened for others at John Martin Reservoir. The Brown Pelican seen by many yesterday at the stilling basin below the dam at John Martin Reservoir (Bent County) was still present today. I would be willing to bet that this is the same adult Brown Pelican reported a week ago at Lake Beckwith in Pueblo County.
So far, two Piping Plovers have returned, arriving on April 12th, several days later than the recent average arrival date. Stormy weather has delayed the return of more birds. I am looking forward to sharing these birds with participants in the CFO annual convention.
