A somewhat more active morning that many of our recent days – banded a total of 28 birds. A nice mix of species, with late warblers and sparrows mixing it up. We caught 2 less frequent sparrow species, a White-throated Sparrow (caught for the 2nd time this a.m; we banded it late yesterday afternoon as part of a special career program for a group of high school students. Note to Tina Jones: we caught it about 2 hours after I told you we had not had one yet!) and a Swamp Sparrow (the 1st at Barr since 2005). Here’s the full breakdown for today:
Downy Woodpecker 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Hermit Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 1
MacGillivray’s Warbler 1
Wilson’s Warbler 2
Song Sparrow 2
Swamp Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel’s 4
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 2
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 3
House Sparrow 4
We are in our final 2 weeks – last day of banding will be Sunday, 10/14. We are closed Thursday both this week and next.
