[cobirds] Re: Reminder: Please join us this Saturday afternoon at ABA HQ in Colorado Springs!

Hello, Birders.

I hope to see some of you this afternoon in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, for the event announced by Jeff Gordon. But I hope *not* to see you on I-25 in Denver, which is expected to be an awful drive. Even Saturday mid-day, when the highway is temporarily reopened, lane closures and long delays are anticipated. Looks like your best bet, if you're coming from somewhere near Denver, is to bypass I-25 by way of C-470; that route works both east and west of the city.

See you later today!

Dear COBirders,

Seconding previous messages from Ted Floyd and Mel Goff, I'd like to invite/remind you one last time of what is shaping up to be a really fun gathering Saturday afternoon at the ABA's offices in Colorado Springs as we hold our "Thank You, Colorado!" open house.

From 2 PM to 5 PM, we'll be giving away--yep, giving away--dozens of books, as well as some miscellaneous office things. Starting at 5, we'll have an opportunity to enjoy a cool beverage and reminisce about the ABA's many years in Colorado and to talk about what the future holds, including continuing close ties to this beautiful and birdy state.

If you are able to join us for refreshments at 5, please help us get a quick head count by filling in this two-question form. No passwords, no sign ins, just your name and the number of people in your party:

A word about the books and furnishings being given away:

I hope you won't be too disappointed if I tell you that you won't find any double elephant folios of Audubon's Birds of America or things of that sort. We are keeping everything (within reason) that is pertinent to the ABA's history, as well as a solid birding reference collection, plus a number of items that have been donated as memorials, or are otherwise of special interest. That still leaves a lot of cool books that we'd rather have you use than us pay to have moved.

On office furnishings, for anybody looking to pick up a file cabinet or two, perhaps a bookshelf, there will be opportunities to do so. Also, if you know anyone who's into slide projectors, we've got 'em. You should come prepared to take things with you. We might consider holding something for you for a day or two, but preference will be give to those who can haul on the spot. For more information, call the ABA headquarters (719-578-9703, 800-850-2473) or contact the ABA by email (in...@aba.org). Directions are below.

I hope to see many of you this Saturday.

Good birding,

Jeff

DIRECTIONS: The ABA is headquartered in the blue-and-white house at 1618 W. Colorado Avenue in Old Colorado CIty, just west of downtown Colorado Springs. From I-25 take the Cimarron (Route 24) exit west toward Manitou Springs. Turn right (north) on 8th Street. Then go left (west) on Colorado Ave. The building is between 16th and 17th streets on the north side of the road. Free parking is available on Colorado Ave. and surrounding streets. Follow signs to the back of the office building, where the festivities will be based.
