ALAMOSA COUNTY:
--A Snowy Plover was reported by Rawinski at Blanca Wetlands, east of Alamosa on August 11. The best place for shorebirds was Pond #114 just N of "t" in Road. Go either N or S.
ARAPAHOE COUNTY:
--A juvenile plumaged LITTLE GULL was reported by Walbek at Cherry Creek SP in the middle of the lake on August 14 and August 15.
BOULDER COUNTY:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by Dowell at Skunk Canyon on August 5.
CHEYENNE/KIOWA COUNTIES:
--5 Chihuahuan Ravens were reported by Peterson near the county line and NE of Sand Creek Massacre site on August 3.
COSTILLA COUNTY:
--At Smith Reservoir on August 3, Mlodinow reported ad Caspian Tern and ad Glossy Ibis.
EL PASO COUNTY:
--A m Indigo Bunting was banded by Brown at Clear Springs Ranch on August 9.
--An ad Northern Waterthrush was banded by Brown at Clear Springs Ranch on August 14.
FREMONT COUNTY:
--Miller reported a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher on July 8 on CO 67, It was seen flying alongside the highway. It was seen 0.75 miles north of the Custer County line. On July 13, Miller reported seeing the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at the same spot. On July 14, the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher was reported by Walbek, Percival and Schultz. On July 16, Drummond reported Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at 0730 but not at 1030. On July 19, Hinds reported the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at the same spot. On July 20, Edwards reported that 2 Scissor-tailed Flycatchers were seen and
that they appear to be nesting in the dead tree. On July 22, Bill Maynard reported 1 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher before 0800. On July 23, Moss reported seeing the female Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. On July 25, Moss was able to see the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher pair exchange duty at the nest in the dead tree. On July 26, Kaempfer reported the pair of Scissor-tailed Flycatchers were busy defending their nest. On July 27, Moss watched the f Scissor-tail forage from the driveway several hundered feet north of nest tree.. Moss spoke to the property owner of the nest tree and it is okay to park in the driveway as long as you do not block the driveway and stay outside their fenceline. On August 2, Moss reported seeing the male Scissor-tail but not the female. On August 4, Moss
again reported only seeing the male Scissor-tail. On August 5, Rich Miller reported the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher.
Moss reported seeing the male Scissor-tail on August 8. On August 9, Kellner reported the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher.
GRAND COUNTY:
--On August 13, Remsen reported 18 Black-throated Gray Warblers and 4 Black-chinned Hummingbirds on CR 117 above Radium.
LA PLATA COUNTY:
--A WHIP-POOR-WILL was found by Larson and Remsen S of Durango on Hwy 140 near the state line on August 16.
LARIMER COUNTY:
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Biggerstaff at Dixon Reservoir low in bushes just S of the inlet stream on the S side of the dam on August 14.
LOGAN COUNTY:
--A singing EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE and singing Bell's Vireos were reported by Severs at west Tamarac Ranch on August 6. The Pewee was just north of Site 1.
--A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Mlodinow at Jumbo on August 16.
MESA COUNTY:
--On August 3, Korte reported Nashville Warbler and Purple Martins in Collbran. A pair of Purple Martins was feeding young.
--On August 11, Cooper reported migrating Purple Martins and Common Nighthawks at Fruita Reservoir #2.
--On August 10, Korte reported 10 Purple Martins on Brush Creek Road where it enters Aspens. Some of the
martins were recently fledged.
MONTEZUMA COUNTY:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by Beatty at the west end of McPhee Reservoir in cottonwoods on the SW side of the dam on August 6.
MONTROSE COUNTY:
--On August 4, Dexter reported a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher visited his yard in Nucla. He will report back on August 5 if it is still around. On August 5, Dexter was able to refind the Scissor-tailed Flycather where it was
last seen on the 5th but it fly south of town and out of sight.
MORGAN COUNTY:
--3 Caspian Terns were reported by Dowell at Jackson Lake SP on the NE side of the lake on August 11.
On August 15, Mlodinow reported a Caspian Tern at Jackson Lake on the NE side. At the campground side, Mlodinow reported a Northern Waterthrush on August 15.
OTERO COUNTY:
On August 10, Minner-Lee reported Snowy Plovers with chicks and 2 Piping Plovers at Lake Cheraw.
PUEBLO COUNTY:
--On August 16, Percival reported the following at Valco Ponds/Rock Canyon: Northern Waterthrush, 1 Black Phoebe, and 5 Eastern Phoebe, 2 Cassin's Kingbirds
--On August 16, Moss reported 4 ACORN WOODPECKERS in pines at Pueblo Mountain Park.
--A Greater Roadrunner was reported by Moss on Siloam Road in West Pueblo County on August 16.
WELD COUNY:
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Mlodinow at Crow Valley on August 13.
DFO Field Trips:
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, August 17 will be to Roxorough SP led by Doris Cruze (303-798-8072). Meet outside the Roxborough SP Visitor Center at 0730. Will hike for 2 to 2.5 hours. State Parks pass or $7 day pass required. bring binoculars, water, sturdy footwear, and snacks. Lunch optional. Will probably see Lesser Goldfinch and Golden Eagle.
