Can you believe it?--there are actually some shorebirds in Boulder County.
At 2:56 a.m. this morning, whilst typing an email to Steve Mlodinow, I heard the flight call of an Upland Sandpiper, loud and clear, over Lafayette. (The rest of the night flight was abysmally slow. Wilson's Warblers are on the move now, in case I haven't said so in the past week; I probably have, eh?)
Early this evening, at Little Gaynor Lake, Hannah and Andrew and I were surprised by 19 Red-necked Phalaropes. There were 2 Wilson's Phalaropes, too, and an avocet.
And over at Panama Rez, there were many shorebirds, many of them inconveniently far away. But a few came in to the mud and shoreline over on the nearby northwest corner. Highlights were a Semipalmated Plover and 2 Stilt Sandpipers. A decent smattering of Baird's out there, too, and Semi/Western things, and spuhs.
