[cobirds] 2013 Update to Clements Checklist

COBirders and others,

If you would like to download a free electronic copy of the revised checklist of the very recently revised Clements world bird taxonomy checklist, including the August, 2013, revisions to the Clements Checklist (now called eBird/Clements Checklist), you can do so at:

http://www.birds.cornell.edu/clementschecklist/overview-august-2013/

A brief summary follows:

230 world bird families are recognized (including one extinct family).

10,324 bird species are recognized along with 20,864 subspecies.

As a result of annual splits and lumps, 73 “new” species resulted from splits and 6 species are “lost” due to lumps.  In addition, 25 actual new bird species are included, birds not recorded in the 2012 update, i.e. ones newly described to science or birds newly discovered.  And, If you purchased the Handbook of the Birds of the World series, the final volume, Volume 17, will include descriptions of 15 newly proposed bird species from Brazil and a few other proposed bird species from other world areas.
