ADAMS COUNTY:
--2 Nashville Warblers were reported by Sheeter at Barr Lake in the ditch on the boat ramp side of the park on August 13.
ALAMOSA COUNTY:
--The WHITE IBIS is still in the area. On August 17, Beauchaine, refuge manager of Alamosa NWR reported seeing the WHITE IBIS in a closed area of the refuge flying around with White-faced Ibis.
BENT COUNTY:
--A sub-adult white-morph REDDISH EGRET was reported by Duane Nelson at Lake Hasty below the dam at John Martin Reservoir on August 20. It was partial the the shallow water on either side of the isthmus that divides the north and south halves of the lake.
BOULDER COUNTY:
--A Great Crested Flycatcher was reported by Knight at the footbridge at Golden Ponds in Longmont on August 19.
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY:
--A f Barrow's Goldeneye with ducklings was reported by Righter on the north side of Echo Lake on August 14.
FREMONT COUNTY:
--Moss reported that hatch year Black Phoebes continue along the Canon City Riverwalk west of Sell's Lake parking area at least through 10 August. On August 11, Moss reported juvenal Black Phoebes at Sell's Lake adjacent to the Canon City Riverwalk. On August 13, Moss reported 2 juvenal Black Phoebes across the Arkansas River near Sell's Lake and on August 14, Moss reported 1 Black Phoebe in the same area.
--A young Greater Roadrunner was reported by Moss at Brush Hollow SWA on August 13.
GARFIELD COUNTY:
--Bunches of Black-throated Gray Warblers were reported by Dahl at Rifle Gap Reservoir on August 13.
JEFFERSON COUNTY:
--An Indigo Bunting family (m, 4 young) was reported by Henwood at Bear Creek Lake Park on August 19. The family was along Bear Creek just below the Soda Lakes Road across the street from the Conoco Station at C470 and Morrison Road.
LA PLATA COUNTY:
--A Black-throated Gray Warbler and Nashville Warbler were reported by Morris at the Durango Hatchery on August 17.
LARIMER COUNTY:
--A possible 2nd year MEW GULL was reported by Komar in the northwest lagoon of Lake Loveland on August 14.
LOGAN COUNTY:
--Calling Bell's Vireos were reported by Kaempfer at Red Lion below the "Little Jumbo" dam on August 17.
PUEBLO COUNTY:
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Drummond at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) at HQ Willows on August 17.
--A Great Crested Flycatcher was reported by Drummond at Chico Basin Ranch in Russian Olives along Rose Pond on August 17.
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Rawinski on August 17 near Lowes on Pueblo Blvd in Pueblo.
--At Valco Ponds on August 18, Hurtado reported Northern Waterthrush along the creek near the parking lot, 2 Black Phoebe, 1 Eastern Phoebe.
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
--A Great Crested Flycatcher was reported by Kaempfer at the inlet channel at Prewitt on August 16.
DFO FIELD TRIPS:
--The DFO Field Trip for Thrusday, August 22 will be to Rocky Mountain NP led by Chris Owens
(home: 303-772-6048; cell: 970-481-7271; or email christiel AT q.com). Meet at 0730 at the Park's Visitors' Center, east of Beaver Meadows entrance on US 36. 3/4 day trip. Bring water, lunch, and clothes for changeable weather. You either will need to have a parks pass or ride with someone who has one, or be prepared to pay an entry fee. Will carpool from the Visitors' Center. We will start with a hike of about two miles at Upper Beaver Meadows. Will walk a bit more at a couple of other places.
Registration with the leader is required. Limited to 15 participants.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, August 24 will be to Barr Lake SP led by Ira and Tammy Sanders (303-278-7172). Meet the leaders at 0700 at the Nature Center at Barr Lake. State Parks pass or day pass required. Will end by noon so lunch is optional. For those who bring lunch, will eat on benches close to the bridge close to the Nature Center. There may be lingering breeding birds as well as early migrants, particularly shorebirds.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, August 25 will be to Northeastern Colorado, Prewitt and Jackson Reservoirs led by Joey Kellner (303-978-1748). Meet the leader at 0530 at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, 6060 North Broadway. Exit I-25 at 58th Ave, go west 2 blocks to Broadway, the north 2 blocks to parking lot on right. Habitat Stamp for State Wildlife Areas and State Parks Pass required. This is an all day trip so bring lunch and plenty of water and bug spray. Call the leader if going.
