[cobirds] Prewitt and Jumbo Reservoirs

ALERT - Prewitt and Jumbo Reservoirs

A hunting license, fishing license or "Prewitt/Jumbo SWA annual permit" is REQUIRED for each person (age 19-64) entering Prewitt/Jumbo Reservoirs. The permit and licenses are each $36.00.  The fine is $70.00 per person.  Habitat stamps are not a substitute for this requirement. (The Division of Wildlife revealed that the Habitat stamp program is no longer operational.)

Yesterday while scoping at Prewitt, we were approached by the local DOW officer.  He asked if each of us had a valid fishing license or Prewitt permit, we replied "no," he informed us that it would be a $70.00 fine, each.

Apparently this policy has been in effect for about 3 years. (See image of sign attached.) In the past warnings have been routinely given. That policy has now come to an end and violators will be fined. The officer related recent incidents where birders had trespassed across private property, and, in one case, disregarded the owner's request not to do so.  While the officer did not state it directly, it seemed to us that the policy change was likely related to the recent incidents.
