[cobirds] New Colorado Bird Records Committee website

Hello all:

I am pleased to announce that the new Colorado Bird Records Committee website is now available: http://www.coloradobirdrecords.org/.

This site has conceptually been in the works for several years.  Issues with the former site lead to many insightful discussions within the CFO birding community.  Much of the new functionality and revised reporting process is a result of those discussions.  And, I fully expect the site to evolve over the years along with technological innovation and feedback from the birding community.

One new aspect to this site that merits being singled out is that the entire CBRC database of accepted records has been incorporated.  There are multiple ways to query the database and I'll leave it at that for you to jump in and explore.  However, you may note that not all records have complete information. This is particularly true for the older documentations that are in paper form only.
Over the course of the next several months more information will be added to those records as we manually input that info into the system.  I ask for your patience as we continue updating the online database.  As always, you can contact Rachel Hopper or me directly if you need specific information on any species or record.  There may still be a few nagging cosmetic issues to resolve as well.  Please let me know if anything critical is not working for you.

Also, the site will require you to create a new account to submit documentation.  Once you have created an account, if you had documentations on the old site we will link them to your new account.  This may take a day, but please let me know if there are any issues or if more than a day has passed and your records aren't available to you.

The list of individuals who helped with this site's design and development is too long to recount here.  However, I would like to extend my personal gratitude to Jim Beatty and the CFO Board of Directors for supporting this project.  Also, Rachel Hopper and Mark Peterson were not only helpful, but irreplaceably vital to me during the site's development over the summer and to our success of meeting the end of summer deadline.  Many others provided input, feedback, and tested the system through the summer and I don't want to name names for fear of forgetting someone.  My grateful appreciation to all who helped.

Thank you.

Doug Faulkner
CBRC Chair
