[cobirds] Eastern Phoebe, Sage Thrashers, late Burrowing Owl north of La Junta-late report

I did a little birding in the La Junta area on Saturday and found a late Burrowing Owl north of that town.  I also found an Eastern Phoebe and 2 Sage Thrashers in the se corner of Lake Holbrook SWA.   Those were a surprise and I suspect they were all migrating through the area.  Interestingly, I found the Sage Thrashers together along with several Western Kingbirds and several assorted sparrows at the only appreciable water in that area:  a 10 foot X 3 foot puddle!  Even the phoebe was not far from that puddle.  I watched one of the Sage Thrashers and several sparrows go down to drink from it.  Lake Holbrook has been totally dry for about 2-3 weeks, related to but not directly caused by the drought (it holds irrigation water that got used up due to very dry ground and because of drought there was no more water to put in it).

I have posted photos of one of the Sage Trashers and the Burrowing Owl on my Birds and Nature blog
