Re: [cobirds] Official CFO Response

Dear Greg,

I believe the answer to your question is in the prelude: "the guiding organization of Colorado birding" .... the CFO's job is to guide us about birding, not dictate the proper course of action on ethical dilemmas.  I believe their response was appropriate.  Obviously "Jim Dandy" was a pseudonym, the 'lurker' didn't even have the courage to sign his (or her) real name and location, only to come in and throw a couple sucker punches, then offer some kind of response like he (or she) was too good to even participate any longer.

Sure, the CFO could have backed either side of the issue, but that could look like a political stance. Some people might say that being a taxpayer in the city of Lakewood technically makes them the "property owner" for BCLP (?). My opinion is that we have too much government intervention, rules & regulations and government bureaucracy paves the way to madness.  It's one thing for me to say it, but for CFO to take a side would be inappropriate. Bill Kaempfer's response was perfect. Besides, didn't Paul Hurtado reply FTW (for the win) ? So feed away !

If Joe Roller knew what kind of response his initial email would generate, sure.... he probably never would have sent it. But I for one appreciate everything he's done for the Colorado birding community, and especially his warm, welcoming attitude toward new birders like myself (when I was there).  A lot of people don't understand his sense of humor and probably the biggest problem with his original email is one that has plagued us since the advent of the internet: inability to convey the non-verbal cues we rely on so heavily in day-to-day communication. Facial expression, eye contact, verbal tone, sarcasm -- they're all washed away in the dry void of the internets.

Anyway, I'm jealous of all you who got the Brambling!  Hope he sticks around for more to enjoy.

Another lurker,

CFO, the guiding organization of Colorado birding, drops the ball and fails to take any meaningful position on a real issue facing birders and property owners, due to a mailing list policy?

That's weak.
