[cobirds] Union Reservoir, Weld County, Aleutian Cackling Goose

Greetings All,

At http://www.flickr.com/photos/36088296@N08/ are several digiscoped photographs of the Union Reservoir Aleutian Cackler on 25 November 2012 seen by Cathy Sheeter and me. The first photo, as obviously labelled, is from California. There is extensive commentary with each photo, but note that --

1) the bird had a thin neck collar around 1/4 or so of neck circumference, not obvious in the photos; also, this bird's neck collar is not as thick as a stereotypical Aleutian Cackler. However, immature Aleuts do not develop (grow?) full neck collars until some time in December, with many/most lacking any neck collar prior to Dec.
2) the broad black gular stripe is rather rare in Cacklers other than Aleut, except minima, in which it is uncommon to rare.
3) note the bronzy chest
4) somewhat steep forehead and long bill.

Also seen over last couple days, in addition to what others have posted, was a ROSS'S x SNOW GOOSE adult at Dodd Reservoir, seen with David Dowell on Sunday
