Emails are a potentially hazardous way to try to convey humor or any type of emotion for that matter. I could see the humor in Joe's post right away but could also understand that other people did not see or, perhaps, appreciate it.
90% of the people who post to Cobirds and respond to questions do so in a kind and educational fashion. I've met a lot of great people from going to see birds that I've read about on this list and have learned tons about birds from reading the posts.
That being said, reading the string of responses to Joe's email reinforces my concerns about posting to Cobirds. At times, I abstain from posting for fear of being attacked for not saying something correctly or in the correct manner and don't even think about what might happen if I make a mistake in a bird ID!
So, I vote for more kindness, lightness and humor in the reports of, and responses to, our birding adventures! Go easy on each other... I'm just sayin'...
