[cobirds] no tern at Barr L

Alas, Mary and Tom Burger and I did not find the Royal Tern this morning at Barr L.  We started at the RMBO Stone House Hdqts and checked from the top of the dam.  Had 16 Snowy Egrets on a sandbar along with 3 Franklin’s Gulls and a few cormorants swimming.  Then went around to the visitor center parking lot, walked across the bridge and to the break in the cottonwoods where we went down onto the lake bottom.  We hiked all along the edges of all the small pool of remaining water and saw no terns other than several Forster’s Terns plus a few more Franklin’s Gulls, 1 California Gull, and many Ring-billed Gulls.  Lots of peeps, mainly Baird’s Sandpipers.  Also saw a few pelicans and Eared Grebes and lots of Western Grebes.  Nearly all were sleeping so we didn’t search for Clark’s.  In the smartweed in the old lake bottom were 2 Eastern Kingbirds.  No one else including Mike Freiberg who was out there looking saw the tern either.  We finally gave up at 11:45 and went to Pepper Pod for lunch.
