Adams County:
--A Little Blue Heron in transitional phase plumages was reported by Canter at Lowell Ponds on July 19. It was along the shore and on the island of Heron Lake. Lowell Ponds is at 56th and Lowell. On August 13, Gilbert reported that the Little Blue Heron was along the shore of the island in Heron Lake. On August 16 Mlodinow reported the Little Blue Heron was along the shore of Heron Lake. On August 23, Gilbert reported that the Little Blue Heron was at the west end of Lowell Ponds in a pond near the parking lot. On August 24, Canter reported that the Little Blue Heron was at the west end of Heron Lake.
--A Nashville Warbler was banded by McBurney at the Barr Lake Banding Station on August 20.
Alamosa County:
--At Blanca Wetlands on August 24, Rawinski reported Ruddy Turnstone and Snowy Plovers at pond #16.
Boulder County:
--A Mississippi Kite was reported by Page flying over open space near Coal Creek east of Louisville Golf Course.
Custer County:
--At Lake DeWeese on August 25, The Arkansas Valley Audubon field trip reported Black and Eastern Phoebes below the dam and 3 Northern Waterthrush at the low end of the lake.
Jefferson County:
--A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Faulkner on the VanBibbler Trail in Arvada on August 25. The Trail Parking lot is on the W side of Ward Road about 1/4 mi S of 58th Ave.
--A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Norm Lewis at 6th Ave frontage road in front of Red Rocks Community College on August 25.
Mesa County:
--A juv Green Heron was reported by Stigen at Fuita State Park on August 23.
--A Dunlin was reported by Bradley at the Redlands Parkway North Pond in Grand Junction on August 25.
Montrose County:
--A Cassin's Kingbird and Nashville Warbler were reported by Dexter in Nucla on August 25. The Nashville Warbler was E of the sewer lagoons.
Morgan County:
--3 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were reported by Faulkner at Jackson Lake SP in the NE corner on August 21.
--A juvenal plumaged CURLEW SANDPIPER was reported by Mlodinow at Jackson Reservoir on August 23. Park by the dam, walk east along the dam face, at about marker "18" scan to north about half mile away. The CURLEW SANDPIPER was with a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER. Rubber boots are highly recommended. Mlodinow also reported 2 juv Short-billed Dowitchers at Jackson on August 23.
--At Jackson Lake SP on August 25, Walbek reported a LITTLE GULL near the dam in the morning, but the BBC field trip did not find it in the afternoon.
--The Boulder Bird Club field trip reported a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and Northern Waterthrush at Jackson in the SE corner on August 25.
Ouray County:
--A molting RED PHALAROPE was reported by Dexter at Ridgway State Park on August 20. The RED PHALAROPE was refound by Kent Nelson on August 21 where the river comes into the reservoir.
Summit County:
--A pair of Swans was reported by Boex at Farmers Korner on the S shore of Lake Dillon on August 22.
Teller County:
--A BREWSTER'S WARBLER was first seen by Koehn N and E of Spillway bridge at lake's outlet at Manitou Lake on August 22 and was confirmed as a BREWSTER'S by Jeff Jones on August 22.
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Jeff Jones at Manitou Lake on August 22.
Washington County:
--On August 23, Norm Lewis reported 2 Blackpoll Warblers at Prewitt.
--At Prewitt on August 24, Erthal reported 1 juv Short-billed Dowitcher and 1 juv Pine Warbler at the inlet canal.
--At Prewitt on August 25, Mlodinow reported 2 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and an Ovenbird at the inlet canal.
Weld County:
--A Black-throated Green Warbler was reported by Mlodinow at Crow Valley CG on August 23. It was in elms S of the CG.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, August 26 will be to NE Colorado, Prewitt and Jackson Reservoirs led by Joey Kellner (303-978-1748). Meet the leader at 0530 at the Division of Wildlife, 6060 No. Broadway. Exit I-25 at 58th Ave, go west 2 blocks to Broadway, then north 2 blocks to parking lot on right. Habitat Stamp for State Wildlife Areas and State Parks Pass required. This is an all day trip so bring lunch and plenty of water and bug spray. Call leader if going.
The August meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists will be on Monday, August 27 at 1930 at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Norm Erthal will talk on "Hyenas and Other Tails" about his trip to Kenya.
