We returned to Blanca Wetlands today as we wanted to try for the Ruddy Turnstone found by Lisa Rawinski there yesterday.
As we set off for Pond 16, the morning started off very well as we witnessed a short squabble between an Northern Harrier and a Peregrine Falcon.
We worked our way from North to South on Pond 16 and saw:
Pectoral Sandpipers
Spotted Sandpipers
At the far south end of pond 16 amidst all the:
American Avocets,
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
4 Stilt Sandpipers
1 Baird's Sandpiper
And finally, the Ruddy Turnstone emerged from a clump of grass on the edge of the pond. We hung around for quite awhile savoring this new Colorado bird.
We re-located the two Snowy Plovers at area 46 and three Snowy Plovers at area 114. So sorry that I listed the wrong area for our sighting last week.
Ended the day with a surprise Snowy Egret on the way out.
Could not re-locate the Northern Waterthrush...but the Ruddy Turnstone more than made up for that!
