I spotted a male Ladder-backed Woodpecker across from the Shadow Hills Golf Course just southwest of Canon City. There is a good amount of cholla cactus habitat on the undeveloped though private lands in this location and this species has been spotted around this area some years ago. I have uploaded some photos of this bird to my Birds and Nature blog. Birding is hot around Canon City.
