Things happen fast in the world of hummingbirds. It seems like just the other day when I got onto the fact an odd-looking female hummer was building a nest (June 29). Today one of the offspring of this Black-chinned Hummingbird apparently fledged, leaving only its sibling to wonder why it has more room in the nest all of a sudden. I will be gone this afternoon and all day tomorrow, so will probably not get to see #2 achieve lift-off. The Breeding Bird Atlas II account of Black-chinned Hummingbird lists the range of dates for "nests with young" as 7Jun-9Aug. If "Junior" in this nest can wait to fledge until tomorrow, it will push the range for "nests with young" by 1 day. It is already at the "extreme" end of things, which modern product marketing tells us is everything, right?
May these young hummers and their mother have a successful rest of the summer and migration trip south. The pic below was taken by cell phone thru my scope 6August2018 when both young hummers were big and together (3 days ago).
