[cobirds] Chatfield SP etc

At Chatfield I saw the continuing BRANT at about 9 am this morning, feeding with Canada Geese between the perimeter road and the campground registration building. The patch of open water at the marina had 6 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS (5 males), 1 adult THAYER'S GULL, 1 CALIFORNIA, along with Ring-billed and Herring. Walking along the South Platte on the trail on the west side upstream of Kingfisher Bridge I heard a GRAY CATBIRD calling repeatedly from just across the river (it was on the east side). This was about 200 m upriver from where the paved path ends in a little loop. I don't know where the catbirds were seen on 12/14, but presumably this was one of those?

Birding the area near the Audubon Center and trails near Waterton a male WESTERN BLUEBIRD flew in from the west and landed on top of the lone conifer near the Audubon center building, then it flew off to the northwest. A HAIRY WOODPECKER was southwest of the center. An adult GOLDEN EAGLE was soaring to the west with an adult FERRUGINOUS HAWK soaring right above it (nice combo).

At Ketring Lake in Littleton I had a flock of 7 CEDAR WAXWINGS which was just my 2nd sighting since I moved here Dec 1. Eight WOOD DUCKS, regular there, where very pleasant to watch at close range as they inquired about hand outs.
