Re: [cobirds] Steller's jays, SE Fort Collins, Larimer Co.

We have also had 2-3 Steller's jays in our yard, starting October 29th, and almost every day since.  We live in Northwest Fort Collins about a mile from the foothills.  This is the first year we have had them at our feeders.

This afternoon, I watched a dipper feed in the river below the bridge over the Poudre in Lion's Park.  This was the first time post flood that I have seen one there.

We're about 5 miles east of their usual haunts in the foothills. This is the first time we've seen them here in 14 years - most enjoyable visitors. Other birds of interest lately - the Cooper's Hawk had a mourning dove breakfast, leaving a huge pile of feathers for us to clean up. We've been feeding a flock of 25+ MO doves, which tend to attract the accipiters. A 1st year Northern Goshawk made an unsuccessful attempt to snag one last week. He paused long enough for a killer photo of him. We also watched a Red-tailed Hawk catch and eat a squirrel. YEA! They don't move quite as fast in the snow.
