[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 10/11/24

Our excitement for today was the capture of a Golden-crowned Sparrow.  A life-bird for me and many of our DFO visitors and volunteers.  (I thought it might be a new bird for the station, but it turns out we banded one other - on October 19 in 1998..........guess it is hard to get a first for a station that has been running for 30+ years!)

Otherwise, our fall continued with the capture of 29 new birds (mostly sparrows) and 20 recaps (mostly sparrows).  And one return Downy Woodpecker that we banded last year.  Here's the breakdown of the new + the return:

Downy Woodpecker 1 return, banded 8/23/23

Hermit Thrush 3

Chipping Sparrow 1

Lincoln's Sparrow 1

White-throated Sparrow 1

Golden-crowned Sparrow 1

White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 15

White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1

Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 5

Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1

Weather permitting, we are banding Tuesday through Sunday mornings (closed Mondays).  There is a public session most weekday mornings from 7:30-8:30, and three time slots on weekends, at 8, 9, and 10 a.m.  There is a $7 fee and registration is required – click here to register!
