[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 10/1/24

Don't know if it was the result of the nice, cool morning, but we had one of the best days of this banding season today - banded 56 birds, about half of which were caught in about 5 nets relatively close together on our 9:50 run.  A huge, tight flock, primarily of Lincoln's and White-crowned Sparrows, but with some Hermit Thrushes and Kinglets thrown in, must have passed through, for us to catch 21 of them.  Here was the break-down for the full morning:

Rock Wren 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Hermit Thrush 8
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 3
Wilson's Warbler 2
Chipping Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 11
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 14
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 3
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 3
Dark-eyed Junco, Unidentified 3

Weather permitting, we are banding Tuesday through Sunday mornings (closed Mondays).  There is a public session most weekday mornings from 7:30-8:30, and three time slots on weekends, at 8, 9, and 10 a.m.  There is a $7 fee and registration is required – click here to register!

Let me know if you have any questions,

[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies- Chico Basin Ranch Banding Station Report- October 1, 2024

The temperature was nice today. However, bird numbers were not great. We caught a Spotted Towhee which was a highlight for me. No Wilson's Warblers heard or observed at the banding station today.

13 New Banded Birds
Orange-crowned Warbler- 2
Audubon's (Yellow-rumped) Warbler- 3
Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) Warbler- 1
Oregon Junco- 3
Hermit Thrush- 3
Spotted Towhee- 1

2 Recaptures- both of which gained weight from their last capture
Hermit Thrush
Oregon Junco

I am still hoping for a couple more good bird days this week. We shall see if they materialize.
The banding station will be open this week through Friday from Sunrise until @ 11:45.
Stop by and report your sightings when you are on the ranch.

Remember to go to the Aiken Audubon Society website to register for birding access to the Ranch.

Have a good day,
