[cobirds] RMBO @ CBR, El Paso Co, Thurs.; Hooded Warbler

Hi COBIrders,

Bird-of-the-Day: Adult male HOODED WARBLER, banded this morning.  Very Cool.

The clear skies and wind brought in new birds, especially sparrows, they just didn't find the nets until midday. At dawn there were dozens of White-crowned and Song Sparrows, and some kinglets and mixed warblers (like the Hooded, caught at 7:00). We never did catch the big sparrows, maybe because a juv Cooper's Hawk was cruising the lanes and was briefly in a net, but escaped.  Around 11:00 we started catching small flocks of Chipping Sparrows, and a few warblers - fewer Wilson's, and more Orange-crowned and Audubon's Yellow-rumped.

Total birds banded today, about 55.

Good birding,
