[cobirds] Flagler, Kit Carson and Longmont, Weld highlights

Greetings All

Yesterday evening, at the golf course ponds near the Frederick Rec Area (behind the Safeway) there was an immature SNOW X ROSS'S GOOSE hanging out with a small group of Lesser Canada Geese.

This morning Cathy Sheeter and I ventured to Kit Carson County, birding the Flagler area.
Wading through snow all morning, insectivore migrants such as warblers were, indeed, very scarce.
We did find two GLOSSY IBIS at Flagler SWA as well as a MEXICAN DUCK x MALLARD (male) and a SPOTTED x EASTERN TOWHEE. A number of juncos still remain at Flagler SWA, the rarest being a GRAY-HEADED JUNCO. Also, we found 4 very late AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS. A BONAPARTE'S GULL there was the first for the county in eBird. Not sure how rare that species really is in that part of the state

Heading home, at Firestone Gravel Pits, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES remain + there was one GLOSSY IBIS feeding on the edge of the same pond. In its company was a bird that appeared to be a GLOSSY x WF IBIS, but I could not be sure. There were also 52 BONAPARTE'S GULLS

At Union Reservoir, on the n. shore, there were 44 MARBLED GODWITS in two flocks, one feeding the other snoozing. A PEREGRINE FALCON buzzed the lot.

Good Birding
