Hi All,
Today was “dress rehearsal” for our 5 week run of spring banding at Chatfield. We will open tomorrow, sharing our first “official” day with ~200 Comcast volunteers coming out to work on Audubon projects.
While finishing up our preparations today, we caught 12 birds, starting off with…..drum roll…..an Orange-crowned Warbler, followed by the first of three Yellow-rumped Warblers. Our catches included two birds that we banded at about this time last year.
Here’s the day’s breakdown:
Black-capped Chickadee 3 new, 1 banded last year 4/28
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon’s 3 (There were LOTS of Yellow-rumpeds around, but they were high in the trees, above the nets)
Spotted Towhee 1 banded last year 4/28
Song Sparrow 1
Lincoln’s Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 1
We will be open daily, weather permitting, through June 2 EXCEPT for May 10-11. We are opening nets about 6:30, so will have birds back at the station by about 7:15. Come early to see more birds and avoid the school groups that will begin arriving ~9:30 most weekdays.
Look forward to seeing many of you this spring!
