Re: [cobirds] Re: NEGATIVE news on the CHerry Creek Hudsonian Godwit

I have also posted photos on Colorado birder and flickr of what I believe to be willet. I followed 4 in the same area that Jon spoke about on April 24th.  Flickr link for the Willet http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/29673297@N08/8678927427/in/photostream/

I have some photos (rather terrible ones) of the Hudsonian Godwits two days ago. I saw a couple on the SE shore off the sand spit south of the eastern boat ramp. I also tromped through the mud yesterday to get out to the sandy south shore, where Cottonwood Creek empties into the reservoir. I believe I saw quite a number of Willets (never seen them before, but I have photos and based on Sibley, they appear to be Willets), a bunch of Avocets, and what I believe are Semipalmated Plovers (again, have photos). I also captured a few photos of a Least Sandpiper (tiny little cutie!)

It is not easy to get out to that area. The shore is lined with reeds, and the muck will easily suck your shoes off. I almost lost a Neos Explorer overshoe. There may be a drier route out there from the other side of Cottonwood Creek. Anyway, I wore camo and had my camera wrapped in camp, crept up slow, and creeped up prone once I got past the mud and muck...the shorebirds did not seem to mind a bit, and were entirely fearless. The Willets and Avocets came within a couple feet of my lens as long as I laid down (which I warn anyone who wishes to get out there...is a wet, muddy experience, but worth it for the photos you can get!).

Several of us looked around Cherry Creek SP and some of the shorebirds that

AWOL.
I am not sure if anyone checked the swim beach or NE corner, so if you are
going over there, that might be a good place to start.
