Contrary to several rumors, the Flagler CBC will be held this year on Saturday December 26 (weather permitting).
I currently have four teams pledged to appear and am looking for one or two others to complete coverage of the count circle.
If you have not seen Lapland Longspurs this year (or ever?) this would be an excellent opportunity. Even discounting the 22,000 seen one year, the count averages over 400 Laplands each year!
Please indicate whether you want to participate on this year's count.
Past counts have shown a marked inequity in productivity of various territories and I hope, depending upon the number of participants, to achieve a more equitable division of the count circle. Up for grabs will be the towns of Flagler and Seibert and the north portion of Flagler SWA. I will make area assignments based on the number of teams responding.
Social distancing will be the rule so plan to team with someone on your ride out. Single person teams are welcome but not encouraged due to the remoteness of the count circle.
There will be a "drive by" check-in at 8AM at the I-70 diner to ensure all teams are in the field. Alternatively you may text me at 303-910-9476.
There will NOT be a noon compilation. Instead, you will email me the results (miles, hours, species totals).
If you find rarities worth chasing down by others you may text them details (I will provide cell phone numbers of all participants..
Thanks for your support!
