[cobirds] Another from Tabor Lake, plus Chatfield SP birds Aug 10

Before leaving Tabor Lake at Wheatridge this morning Scott Somershoe and I observed a leucistic Barn Swallow that appeared to be entirely whitish to pale creamy except for a dusky band of sorts across the top of the breast. A very interesting looking bird!

I went to the Platte River delta at Chatfield SP, where the water level has continued to drop, exposing a large area of mud at the delta and nearby reservoir shorelines, and large areas of shallow water. There were good numbers of herons and egrets and 11 White-faced Ibis. Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers were the most numerous shorebirds, but there were also 2 Solitary Sandpipers, 1 Western Sandpiper and 2 Wilson's Phalaropes. Growing numbers of gulls were still just the two common species (Ring-billed and Cal.). Maybe it will get more interesting there as August progresses?

The road to Plum Creek picnic area is now open. I tried to get out to the delta there but was stymied by a lot of mud in the uplands. The sediment load dropped out in that is is large. The area near the picnic area and bridge has 3 Red-eyed Vireos.

The Marina Sandspit had a good number of gulls on a long tongue of exposed ground now projecting off the tip of the spit, but no shorebirds. A female Lark Bunting was along the road leading to the first big parking lot. An Osprey was flying around.

The Black Phoebe and Eastern Phoebe are still along the South Fork of the South Platte near the mouth of Waterton Canyon. Both were a little bit upstream of the place where they had been reported previously, but same area. Also 1 Indigo Bunting

Back near home, a Least Flycatcher was along Massey Draw near the Ken Caryl Ranch Community Center in Ken Caryl Valley.
