[cobirds] Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Kiowa

Greetings All
Nick Moore and I spent the day birding in Kiowa and Bent again.

The main highlight was a first year YC Night Heron at Née So Pah Reservoir. To reach this spot, take US 287 S from Eads s to CR A ( Kiowa)/ CR WW (Bent). Turn to the west on this road that forms the county line.

Go N on Kiowa CR 40 (which is also called CR 39.5 in places). Go N past CR C. You will see a track running to the east that is labelled as being closed. Continue N on 39.5. Shortly thereafter ( within a mile) there is an unmarked dirt track to the east (at this point reservoir obvious). Take track down towards res. Park on grassy spot. YC Night Heron was in water under trees at s end of reservoir.

At Jett Reservoir there was an American Golden-Plover and 9 more were at NW corner of John Martin Reservoir in Bent. Also at Jett, a few CC Longspurs and a Prairie Merlin and - for Kiowa - a rare Hooded Merg

Tempel Grove was birdless. Neenoshe Locust Grove was packed (49 species) including 100+ OC Warblers. Not much unusual though with Plumbeous and Cassin's Vireos being best finds.

Headed towards Longmont
