Today Nick Moore and I birded Kiowa and Bent Counties
Jett Reservoir just s of Eads in Kiowa was filled with shorebirds but naught more interesting than 2 BB Plovers and 2 Pec Sands
The Neenoshe Locust Grove was sluggish, but did have a cooperative Broad-winged Hawk and very bright Cassin's Vireo
Tempel Grove was very slow with only highlight being a Plumbeous Vireo
John Martin was astonishing. It had thousands upon thousands of birds. At the northeast boatlaunch there was 1-2 Common Terns and a imm (born this summer) ARCTIC TERN that approached us as close as 30 feet.
From overlooks at the northwest corner we had a couple thousand shorebirds, Stilt Sandpiper being the most numerous. We had a sweet juv BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER on dry looking flats between the bluffs and the water - so one of the closest birds. We also had a SB Dowitcher, and flying over the water, 2 Sabines Gulls. No jaegers, alas
Adobe Creek (Blue Lake) Reservoir is a tale of two sides. The west side is a patch of superb shorebird habitat. The most interesting birds there were late-ish BN Stilts and Willet. The east side still holds deep water and had 3 Sabines Gulls. No jaegers :-)
