ADAMS COUNTY:
--A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Roller at Barr Lake in the NW corner on September 28. Roller
also reported that others had 2 Sabine's Gulls at Barr Lake on September 28.
ARAPAHOE COUNTY:
--A Sabine's Gull was reported by Parsons at Cherry Creek SP on September 26 and September 28. On September 28, Righter reported 3 Sabine's Gulls in the NE of Cherry Creek.
BENT COUNTY:
--9 American-Golden Plovers were reported by Mlodinow at the NW corner of John Martin Reservoir on September 24.
--A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was reported by Deininger at Blue Lake on September 27. Follow the canal south.
DOUGLAS/JEFFERSON COUNTIES:
--On September 18 Kellner reported 6 1st year Sabine's Gulls at Chatfield and on September 24, Halverstatd reported 2 Sabine's Gulls and a Lesser Black-backed Gull. On September 22 at Chatfield, Suddjian reported a Sabine's gull at the Marina Sandspit and a Sabine's Gull at the Swim Beach. On September 23, Carstensen reported 3 Sabine's gulls by the Marina Sandspit. On September 26, Tina Jones reported 4 juv Sabine's Gulls at the Marina Sandspit. On September 27, Mark Miller reported 5 Sabine's Gulls (4 imm, 1 ad) east of the marina towards the mouth of Plum Creek. On September 29, Suddjian reported 2 -3 imm Sabine's Gulls at Chatfield.
KIOWA COUNTY:
--A 1st year YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported by Mlodinow at Nee So Pah Reservoir on September 24. Take US 287 S from Eads to CR A (Kiowa)/CR WW (Bent). Turn W on this road that forms the county line. Go N on Kiowa CR 40 (which is also called CR 39.5 in places). Go N past CR C. You will see a track running to the east that is labelled as being closed. Continue N on 39.5. Shortly thereafter ( within a mile) there is an unmarked dirt track to the east (at this point reservoir obvious). Take track down towards res. Park on grassy spot. YC Night Heron was in water under trees at s end of reservoir.
--An American-Golden Plover was reported by Mlodinow at Jeff Reservoir on September 24.
LARIMER COUNTY:
--A Sabine's Gull was reported by Baron at Lake Loveland on September 28.
--At Timnath Reservoir on September 29, Mlodinow reported 1 juv Mew Gull and 1 juv Sabine's Gull.
PARK COUNTY:
--A juv Sabine's Gull was reported by Suddjian on a pond along the N side pf CR 34 on September 27.
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Suddjian on CR 33 on September 27.
PUEBLO COUNTY:
--A Bell's Vireo was reported by Percival at Snakeskin Picnic Area below Pueblo Reservoir Dam on September 24.
--On September 25, Percival reported Blue-headed Vireo and Bell's Vireo below Pueblo Reservoir Dam.
--On September 29, at Chico Basin Ranch, Bill Maynard reported Chestnut-collared and McCown's Longspurs.
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
--An American Golden-Plover was reported by Kaempfer at playas about 6 miles E of Anton on CR 12 and CR JJ on September 27. On September 28, Chavez reported 2 American Golden-Plovers at the Anton Playas.
--A Philadelphia Vireo was reported by Chavez at Last Chance on September 28. A Field Sparrow was reported by Riffe at Last Chance on September 28.
--On September 28, on CR NN between CR 12 and US 36, Riffe reported hearing 10 McCown's Longspurs, a Chestnut-collared Longspur, and heard a Sprague's Pipit.
WELD COUNTY:
--An ad Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Mlodinow at Crow Valley on September 23. A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Dowell in SW corner of Crow Valley on September 28. On September 29, Mlodinow reported 5 Broad-winged Hawks at Crow Valley and an EASTERN MEADOWLARK.
YUMA COUNTY:
--3 Sprague's Pipits were reported by Kaempfer at Pipit Hill near old Bonny Reservoir on September 27. Go east past old Bonny Dam to Hale and continue north. Take the track to NW, continuing on the fainter track to right when first is about to turn into someone's driveway. At top of hill, just before a windmill operated water hole were the pipits.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, October 4 will be to Morris Nature Center at Star K Ranch led by Chris Rurk (253-225-7104 or chrisrurik AT gmail.com). Trip is limited to first 14 registrations. Ranch is located south of I-70 on Smith Road between Chambers and Airport Blvd. Address is 16002 E. Smith Road. Walk migrations trails for about 3 miles. Stops at Bluff Lake, Tower Road Playa, Heron Pond, Westerly Wetlands. Be prepared to carpool and share expense. Brings binoculars, scopes, snacks, and water. Dress for predicted weather.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, October 5 will be to Chico Basin Ranch led by Mark Amershek (mamershek AT msn.com or 303-329-8646). Trip is limited to first 10 registrations. To carpool meet at Kings Soopers Parking lot at 100 Founders Parkway (just east of I-25) in Castle Rock. One-day birding pass for Chico Basin Ranch is $15 or $10/individual when with a DFO group. Co-leader is Bruce Neuman. Please arrive 15 mintues before 0600. Need volunteers to drive
high clearance vehicles on ranch roads. The ranch is about 100 miles from Castle Rock. Scopes will be handy but
not necessary. One two-way radio per car will be helpful. This trip is full.
