This is the Colorado Rare Bird Alert for Saturday, September 20, 2014, updated before dawn, sponsored by Denver Field Ornithologists and Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory.

2014 - the year of Xema Sabini!
Sabine's at Lagerman Reservoir (Boulder County) on 9/14; Kaempfer & Boulder Reservoir 18. 
Cherry Creek Arapahoe County (7 juvys Sept 14 thru 16.), Walbek. *9/19 Sheeter. Also in Arapahoe County, Suddjian found them at McLellan Res, Ketring Lake and S. Platte Reservoir.
Chatfield (Jefferson and Douglas) 12 there on 9/17! Reported by Walbek; continue 9/18, Kellner.
Jumbo (Logan and Sedgwick)  M. ob.
Big Johnson El Paso)   Maynard reports 3 juvys and an adult there on Sept 17.
Smith Reservoir (Costilla County) Rawinski 9/14; 2 there on 9/18; 3 others in the SLV. FIRST COUNTY RECORDS for the entire San Luis Valley!
Marston Reservoir (*Denver County) 9/15 by Alec Hopping. Continues 9/19 (A. Hopping).
Antero Reservoir (Park) Suddjian 9/16
Grant (town) (Park). Along the roadside near Grant at 8,600 feet!  fide Tim Mitzen.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY:
--On Sept 19 Sheeter reported an adult Mew Gull from the Swim Beach at Cherry Creek SP.

BENT COUNTY:
--On September 17 Mlodinow reported an Arctic Tern at John Martin Reservoir. Among "a couple thousand shorebirds" in the NW corner of the reservoir were a juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and 2 Sabine's Gulls. Two more Sabine's were at Adobe Creek Reservoir.

BOULDER COUNTY:
--Dowell reported a juvenile intermediate LONG-TAILED JAEGER at Boulder Reservoir on 9/16
and it continues on 9/18 AM reported by Guarente et al. Sabine's Gulls continue.

COSTILLA COUNTY: 
--Rawinski reported a trio of Sabine's Gulls at Smith Reservoir SWA, near Blanca, on Sept 14, again on 9/18.

DENVER COUNTY:
 --Alec Hopping reported a Caspian Tern at Marston Reservoir, flying southeast toward Chatfield SP on September 14 and a Sabine's Gull at Marston on September 15.

DOUGLAS COUNTY:  
--Kellner reports a RED PHALAROPE near the Marina Sandpit on 9/18. Six X. sabini persist.

JEFFERSON COUNTY:
--A Ruby-throated Hummingbird was reported by Sanders on September 12, at this home. During the quick looks he had of the bird, he observed a red gorget, but it was a little different hue than the usual male Broad-tailed Hummingbird. Contact him via email (zroadrunner14@gmail.comif you want to try to see the bird; visitors are welcome.
--A Black-and-White Warbler was reported on September 15 by Suddjian at the Mother Cabrini Shrine above Golden.

LARIMER COUNTY:
--A PARASITIC JAEGER was reported by Komar at Timnath Reservoir on September 13. The jaeger was not seen on the morning of September 14, nor on September 15, but is to be looked for on large lakes farther south.
--On September 14, Komar reported several tern species at Boyd Lake, including FOUR ARCTIC TERNS. Seen again by Komar on 9/15 and 17..  A first-cycle ARCTIC TERN was reported from there by Walbek on 9/16.
--An adult LONG-TAILED JAEGER was found by Bankert on September 15 at Boyd Lake. Komar and others saw it that evening. Seen on 9/17 by Hopper and by Komar on 9/18 at the Marina Spit.
There seems to be some ternover there, as the Arctics were not seen on 9/18. Approach via Hwy
34.
--On September 19 Wade reports 2 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS at "Merganser Pond," which is in the Prospect Ponds Natural Area, Fort Collins. 

PARK COUNTY:
-- A PARASITIC JAEGER was reported on 9/16 by Suddjian. 2 Sabine's Gulls were there too.

PUEBLO COUNTY:
--A PINE WARBLER was reported by Percival on September 13, east of the Osprey Picnic area on the North side of the Arkansas River, below Pueblo Reservoir dam.

WASHINGTON COUNTY:
--Walbek saw a CANADA WARBLER from Crow Valley Campground on Sept 14 in the west ditch.

WELD COUNTY:
-- On September 16 Hess reported a Black-throated Green Warbler at Crow Valley Campground on September 13.

Directions: Meet at the NE corner of the intersection of Highways 93 and 170. Carpool 3 miles west to the trailhead where parking is limited.
Easy trip on the Fowler and North Spring Brook trails. We will pass a burn area where Lewis's Woodpeckers nested this year and walk by the area in which Grace's warbler was seen.  If not registering online, please call leader to register.

Directions: Meet at the Barr Lake SP Visitor Center. State Parks pass or day pass required. From Denver, take east I-76 to Bromley Lane, exit 22. Go east on Bromley Lane to Piccadilly Rd, then turn south for ~2 miles to park entrance and follow road to Visitor Center.
Bring binocs (scope if you have one), water, snack (lunch optional), bug spray, and sunscreen. We will walk between 3 and 4 miles on an easy trail along the lake. If not registering online, please call/email the leader.
