Hi cobirders. Tuesday night coming home from family get together my
son Bob heard a Great Horned Owl as we came into the
driveway. When I got out of the car I also heard it give a "hoot"
then another both soft and at the back of the lot to the south. What is
unusual is I have not seen or heard a Great Horn Owl in this
subdivision in fifty years. There are now many mature trees several
evergreens which what they like. So I will watch and listen. There
are rabbits and squirrel here.
This morning I got up late about 9AM and 9 o F calm but snowing
lightly . In the 50 year old Juniper in front of the house there
were 3 Juncos, White-winged with all white under tail but not showing
wingbars, a Pink-sided and one dropped out of sight.
These were joined by 2 Black-caped Chickadees all moving around out
of the snow.
Overnight we got at least 6" of snow and up to 12 o F by 10AM calm
and snow had stopped.
Maybe something unusual will show up.
