Once again, Boulder Bird Club (BBC) will be offering a special field to watch the Perseid meteor shower, to listen for nocturnal migrants, and to commemorate the anniversary of the greatest brawl in Major League Baseball history.
RSVP required. We will meet at 2:45 a.m. on Monday, August 12th, at an undisclosed location in eastern Boulder County, and walk a short distance to a dark, mosquito-infested, and enchanting site that is propitious for hearing migrants and seeing meteors. Please email me, and I'll provide directions and let you know about the secret handshake.
The moon (or, rather, the lack thereof) will be favorable for meteors, and the Perseids are forecast to be good this year. And the nocturnal migrants have been excellent thus far this season--not that past performance is an indication of future success.
This outing is free and open to the public. It is suitable for young people, beginning birders, and general curiosity seekers. No cell phones, dogs, or noisy clothes. Bring your own beer, blankets, and lawn chairs; bring orange slices to share.
We always have a fantastic time on this outing. Sometimes we even hear birds and see meteors.
Well, I hope to see, or at least dimly perceive the shadows of, some of you out there! And remember, please, to RSVP to me by email.
