With a group of birders this evening, we birded for about an hour and a half between the town of Walden proper and Walden Reservoir in North Park. Highlights were a flock of about 30 Common Redpolls including a large one (from Greenland??) at Sandy Flinnio(sp?)'s amazing backyard bird feeders/wildlife habitat in town (to find the feeder, follow the myriads of Red-winged and Yellow-headed Blackbirds); an Eastern Downy Woodpecker at the feeder also; a Long-eared Owl sunning itself in the late afternoon sunlight at the willow carr just west of town; and a Caspian Tern at Walden Reservoir.
What is going on with Caspian Terns this spring??
I'll post photos of these birds and others when I get a chance.
