[cobirds] RE: Huerfano County Update - Migration

We decided to brave the howling winds and go out to Lathrop State Park. As it was so windy, we did not expect much, as it turned out we were more than pleasantly surprised.

At Horseshoe we found:
15 Great Blue Herons
60-65 Franklin's Gulls
2 American White Pelicans
45-50 Double-crested Cormorants
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the flock of around 12-15 Northern Rough-winged Swallows!
Sharp-shinned Hawk

The Osprey have returned big time...between both lakes there were over 20 seen!

At Martin Lake there were:
35-40 Clark's and Western Grebes
A nice flock of Bustits
12-15 Ruby-crowned Kinglets were a very pleasant surprise!
5 Yellow-rumped Warblers

Here at home:
25-30 Evening Grosbeaks
10 Cassin's Finches
1 Song Sparrow
6 White-crowned Sparrows
2 transitioning Harris's Sparrows
40+ transitioning American Goldfinches
2 White-breasted Nuthatches
2 Downy Woodpeckers
2 Hairy Woodpeckers
Lewis's Woodpecker was seen briefly
1 Cooper's Hawk
15-20 Pine Siskins

Yesterday we had a Great Egret resting in the trees down by Wahatoya Creek!
