Subject: Painted Redstart in Eagle, CO
Hi,
I was shocked to see what I believe is a Painted Redstart while walking on a trail near the town of Eagle, CO (along the I-70 corridor, west of Vail) on Saturday, April, 20, 2013. I've been an amateur birdwatcher for many years and and quite familiar with many species in the west. From it's black coloring, with white wing patches and a brilliant red breast as well as its unusual behavior......very active tree foraging with tail fanning and flicking as well as spreading wings made it easy to identify in Sibley's, although it is the first time I've ever seen one. I'm not certain how rare this bird is in Colorado, but I did want to report it (although I didn't have a camera with me, unfortunately).
I hope tis is helpful. PLease feel free to contact me at thsi email address.
