[cobirds] Wednesday report Feb. 20

Hi Cobirders, No new year birds seen in the yard lately. With storm
coming Wednesday I put out more seed about noon. I checked often the
birds seemed to be
expecting the storm.

1 PM. Northern Flickers 2 Male pecked away on one of the suet
blocks. Female was on the large drum sorting thru millet seeds for
tiny pieces of gray mineral salt.
She found 3 while
I watched with the point of her bill possibly using her tongue to get
them.

1:15 Eurasian Collared Doves 11 Huddled on the drum feeder for
seeds.

1:15 European Starlings 10 Feeding on the suet Blocks(2) and
on ground under them for crumbs of suet.

2:00 Red winged Blackbirds 100+ feeding on the drum and nearby
waiting for fly ups to get their turn.

House Sparrows about 40 in chokecherry (feeder between
there and house) and the cage feeder hanging nearby on edge of Patio
with sunflower seeds.
in with
them was 1 Red-winged Blackbird now almost adult plumage has been
with the sparrows since early fall and even when
flocks of
Redwings come to the yard he stays with the sparrows!
House Finch several 1 pair has a male with extensive red.
Juncos about 3 of 6 that refuse to go in the cage
although small enough, feed on the ground and go up in the
Chokecherry to the feeder by the house.

3:00 PM All Gone- The Sharpie must be watching!

4:00 PM SNOW started light but straight down

4:45 PM SNOW steady but heavier

5"15PM SNOW covers the ground and the roofs

6:00PM SNOW covers the road getting dark -snow continues into
evening and overnight.

Thursday morning still snowing but very light. I was greeted by 4
Black-capped Chickadees and 5 to 6" of snow.
