[cobirds] Morgan County Today: 78 species

Greetings All,

Today, David Dowell and I wandered around Morgan County and bumped into birds everywhere. Jackson Reservoir  has a good bit of open water. Highlights there include
TUNDRA SWAN (ad, neck band, n access)
AM BLACK DUCK X MALLARD (male, n access)
RUSTY BLACKBIRD (male, alt plumage, along e. side)
2 HERMIT THRUSHES (state park, one was Pacific Lowland type)
BROWN THRASHER (state park)
YB/RN SAPSUCKER (visitor center, state park)
2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES (visitor center, state park)
2 BROWN CREEPER (state park)
2 HARRIS'S SPARROW (state park)
3 LBB GULLS (2 first cycle, 1 ad, on reservoir)
1 THAYER'S GULL (adult, on reservoir)
1 WHITE-WINGED JUNCO (state park)
1 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER (e. side)

At a ?private? site along S Platte River just nw of Ft Morgan, we found
N GOSHAWK
5 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE
1 BROWN CREEPER
14 WB NUTHATCH (12 Eastern, 2 Montane)
43 EASTERN BLUEBIRD
1 RB WOODPECKER
1 N CARDINAL
1 WT SPARROW
2 SWAMP SPARROW
54 SONG SPARROW
2 WHITE-WINGED JUNCO
2 PINE SISKINS (my first of the winter!!!)

At LOG LANE VILLAGE, from end of Elm (thanks Joe Roller)
15 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
1 WINTER WREN
80 ROSS'S GEESE (flying over with several hundred Snows)
4 WILSON'S SNIPE
8 KILLDEER

At Riverside Park in Fort Morgan
1 G WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE
2 TAVERNER'S CACKLING GEESE
1 BROWN CREEPER

An amazing day, beautiful, and birdy. If someone had planned a Morgan County Big Day today, a tally in the high 80s  would've likely been possible, seemingly impossible in winter there

Migration does seem to be starting, with a seeming uptick in Western Meadowlarks and Mourning Doves as well as more waterfowl about.

Good Birding
