ARAPAHOE COUNTY:

--Two Long-tailed Ducks were reported by Kibbe on South Platte Reservoir  West end(signed entrance is on Platte Canyon Rd. north of C-470) on February 22.   Walbek reports a Lesser Black-backed Gull (the rare, intermedius race) from South Platte Reservoir on Feb 8, as well as a first-cycle Iceland Gull. They were seen again on Feb 9 and 10.  On Feb 11, Henwood reported 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and and 2 ad Thayer's Gulls at South Platte Reservoir.  On Feb 12, Brown reported Lesser Black-backed Gull.  On February 13, Kibbe reported a Say's Phoebe on the west side of S Platte reservoir, on the east side of S Platte Canyon Road just north of the junction with W Canyon Trail.  On February 17, Tina Jones reported Lesser Black-backed Gull and Say's Phoebe at the east fence of South Platte Reservoir.


BENT COUNTY:

--On February 19, Duane Nelson observed imm Glaucous Gull and ad Lesser Black-backed Gull from the dam at John Martin Reservoir.

On February 21, Duane Nelson reported 2nd-cyc Glaucous Gull and Ad Great Black-backed Gull from dam at John Martin Reservoir.


BOULDER COUNTY:
--A flock of Bohemian Waxwings was reported by Deininger around McIntosh Lake on February 14.  On February 17, Chavez reported a mixed flock of Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings in the neighborhood around McIntosh Lake.
--A Red Fox Sparrow was reported by Vanderpoel on Crane Hollow Road at the St Vrain Bridge in Lyons on February 15.
--Rosy-Finches including 2 Black and 2 Gray-crowned were reported by Kaempfer at Upper Ward Feeders west past the Old Depot on February 16.  On February 23, Deininger reported all three species of Rosy-Finches at the 3 Upper Ward Feeders.
--Pieplow reported a flock of about 400 Bohemian Waxwings east of the intersection of Foothills Parkway and Diagonal Hwy on February 18. 
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Dowell on Anemone Hill in Boulder on February 18.  Directions:   From Settler's Park at the intersection of Canyon Drive and Pearl, hike roughly 2 miles on the Anemone Trail  to burn area from January 2012 fire.
--45 Bohemian Waxwings and 5 Harris's Sparrows were reported by Guarente on Crane Hollow Road on February 18. Drive South/East on Crane Hollow, the birds were by the house at the bottom of the hill.  Pieplow reported on February 22 that the 5 Harris's Sparrows continue on Crane Hollow Road which is SW of Hygiene.
--A enormous flock of Bohemian Waxwings was reported by Vanderpoel in Niwot on Meadowlane, SW of the high school on February 21.  On February 22, King reported a large flock of Bohemian Waxwings eating berries and drinking melting water on Gold Nugget Dr in Niwot.
--A Common Redpoll was reported by Matheus in the SW corner of Baseline Reservoir on February 21.
--A flock of 70 Bohemian Waxwings was reported by Tumasonis in the Gunbarrel area on Spine Road near Lookout in a big Alder tree across from Spectra Logic on February 22.  On February 23, Pieplow reported 85 Bohemian Waxwings in the SW corner of Spine and Orchard Creek Lane in Gunbarrel.
--A Harris's Sparrow was reported by Mlodinow on February 23 S of Ish Reservoir.

DOUGLAS COUNTY:
--A f type PURPLE FINCH has been visiting the feeder at the home of Glenn Walbek in Castle Rock for almost 2 months.   If you would like to try to see it please contact Glenn at juncos AT comcast.net since you need to be inside the house to see it.

EL PASO COUNTY:

--Maynard reports that the ACORN WOODPECKER continues to be present in SW Colorado Springs in the 1804 - 1810 section of Cheyenne Blvd. It was seen again on the 28th. Dunning and Luke reported the woodpecker on February 14.  

--Peterson reported a flock of Bohemian Waxwings along Hwy 115 between Colorado Springs and Penrose near Mountaindale Campground on February 12.  On February 14, Dunning reported a flock of 190 Bohemian Waxwings 0.2 mile S of Barrett Road on Hwy 115.

--Miller reported about 30 Bohemian Waxwings at Turkey Creek Recreational Area at Fort Carson on February 16.  They were at the playground farthest east with metal fence around playstation in Gamble Oak and Junipers.


GRAND COUNTY:

--On January 18 Filby reported that in Kremmling the feeders in the 900 block of Eagle had 100 Common Redpolls.  60+ Rosy-Finches of all three species were present.  Mlodinow reported >200 redpolls including 3 HOARY REDPOLLs seen in Kremmling on Jan 27; rosy finches continued on Feb 3, reported by Deininger.  On February 14, Luke reported that the Redpolls and a few Rosy-Finches continue to visit the feeders in Kremmling.

JEFFERSON COUNTY:

-- The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Red Rocks Trading Post, first reported by Henwood on Nov 26 and present all winter, was seen again on Feb 21 by Henwood.  Henwood reported Gray-crowned and 2 Black Rosy-Finches on Feb 11 but NO Rosy-Finches on February 21.

--The Wheat Ridge Redpolls continue to visit the feeder of Bob Santangelo at 3525 Estes.  They first arrived January 12 and continue at least through February 21.  Please do NOT park in the driveway, it is okay to park in front of the driveway and get out of cars to see the feeder.

LARIMER COUNTY:

--The flock of redpolls continues to be seen behind the Discovery Museum in Fort Colllins, located at Cherry and Mason St which is the NW corner of College and Cherry.  Dan Maynard reported a flock of about 70 birds with at least one HOARY REDPOLL on February 20.  

--One Trumpeter Swan continues on Lower Hoffman Lake, Loveland, first reported by Rynes on February 3; then on Feb 23 by Mlodinow.

A Swamp Sparrow was reported by Leatherman on February 15 near the observation platform on the west side of the lake near McKee Medical Center Parking Lot. 

--Shenot reported a mixed flock of Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings on the east side of Central Library (Peterson St) in Fort Collins on February 17.

--4 Bohemian Waxwings were reported by Sparks along the Poudre River Bike Trail just west of Lee Martinez Park on February 18.

--A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Dowell at Lake Loveland on February 18.


LOGAN COUNTY:

--An ad Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Kellner at Jumbo on February 17.


MESA COUNTY:

--A White-winged Dove was reported by Arnold at Rocket Park in Grand Junction on February 14.

--Common Redpolls were reported by Liewer at the feeders of Bldg C, Wildwood at Powderhorn Resort on February 16.


MONTROSE COUNTY:

--8 Common Redpolls were reported by Dexter on 25 Mesa Road NE of Nucla on February 16.  They were eating sagebrush seeds on the side of the road.


MORGAN COUNTY:

--11 Rusty Blackbirds were reported by Roller at a park at the end of Elm St in Log Lane Village.  The birds were in trees between the lot and the little wooden bridge which crosses a canal.  At Log Lane Village Mlodinow reported 15 Rusty Blackbirds and 1 Winter Wren on February 16.

--On February 16, at Jackson Mlodinow reported 1 Tundra Swan on N side, SWA; m Rusty Blackbird on E side, 2 Harris's Sparrow at SP, 3 Lesser  Black-backed Gulls (2 1-st cyc, 1 ad) on the res and 1 Thayer's Gull on the res.

--At a spot on the S Platte River NW of Fort Morgan on February 16, Mlodinow reported 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker, 1 Northern Cardinal, 1 White-throated Sparrow, and 2 Swamp Sparrows.


PUEBLO COUNTY:

--On February 15 Percival reported the following at Pueblo Reservoir:  1 ad MEW GULL, 1 1-st cyc Glaucous Gull, 1 ad Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 ad Thayer's Gull and 1 Red-throated Loon.  The gulls were on the ice line seen from SWA on the NW side of Pueblo Reservoir and the loon was seen off of North Picnic Road.   On February 22, Percival reported that the imm Glaucous Gull continues at Pueblo Reservoir SWA.

--A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported by Percival at Pueblo City Park east of the pond in the middle of the park on February 17.


RIO GRANDE COUNTY:

--A Harris's Sparrow was reported by Simmons in the turnoff to Monte Vista NWR on CR 8E on February 21.


SAN JUAN COUNTY:

-- Beatty reports that Common Redpolls have been visiting a feeder in Silverton, Colorado.  Zerbi reported on February 13 that Common Redpolls and Rosy-Finches continue to visit a feeder in Silverton on Snowden.  On February 17, Morris reported all 3 species of Rosy-Finches on the S end of Blair St in Silverton and 2 Common Redpolls at the feeder on Snowden.


WELD COUNTY:

--A Lesser Black-backed Gull and Thayer's Gull were reported by Mlodinow at N Weld County Landfill on February 23.  The landfill is on Hwy 14 W of Ault.

--A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Mlodinow on February 23 at Drake Lake which is S of Hwy 14 and W of Ault.


The DFO field trip for Sunday, February 24 will be to Denver City Park led by Chuck Hundertmark (720-771-8659).  Meet the leader at 0800 at parking strip SW of 22nd Ave just north of Ferril Lake.  From Colorado Blvd, turn west onto 22nd Ave and go past the Museum of Nature and Science.  Turn left just before the zoo at the sign to the Pavilion Bandstand.  Park on the left at the end of the parking area closest to Ferril Lake.  Easy morning walk.  Bring water, snacks, and binoculars.  Scopes optional.  Half day trip.  Limit of 10 participants.  Call or e-mail leader if you plan to attend.


The February meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists will be on Monday, February 25 at 7:30 pm at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  Doug Faulkner will speak on 40 Years of the Colorado  Bird Records Committee in 40 minutes.
