RE: [cobirds] El Paso County fallout under way right now

COBirders,

After reading Ted Floyd's post about early morning migration in El Paso
County I changed my plans and headed to Chico Basin Ranch in Pueblo and El
Paso County (fee). There were bird migrants. In decreasing order of
abundance: Lark Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Brewer's Sparrow, Lark Bunting,
Yellow Warbler, Savannah Sparrow and a currently unidentified, silent Empid.

Just as enjoyable were the Aztec and Paiute dancers, damselflies not people.

The rest of the story:


I slept outside near Dry Creek, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, this past
night, Wed.-Thurs., Aug. 15-16. After the front passed and winds calmed,
sometime overnight, there was a good flight of nocturnal migrants: mainly
Yellow Warblers and Chipping Sparrows, and lower numbers of Lark Sparrows
and Brewer's/Clay-colored Sparrows. Then, as I prowled the mean streets of
nw. Colorado at sunrise ("He was doing *what*?"), I heard migrants' flight
calls everywhere. Right near I-25: Chipping and Lark sparrows galore; a
Western Tanager here, a Black-headed Grosbeak there; the little "electric
buzzer" flight calls of Yellow Warblers; more Chippies and Larks; and a
smattering of Brewer's/Clay-coloreds.


I'm sure they're all headed for Chico Basin Ranch...
