[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Chatfield, 5/12/17

We went from wet to warm, pretty much over night!  First day this season that we started closing early because of the heat.

But a lovely if slowish early morning, with a nice mix of birds, including 5 first of season species.  The highlight was a truly lovely WHITE-EYED VIREO.  Here is a breakdown of the 12 new and 3 returns from prior years:

White-eyed Vireo 1
House Wren 4
Gray Catbird (FOS) 2
Yellow Warbler 1, banded in 2016
Common Yellowthroat 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1 new, 1 banded in 2015, 1 in 2016
Red-winged Blackbird (FOS) 1
Lesser Goldfinch (FOS) 1
American Goldfinch (FOS) 1

The banding station runs daily, weather permitting, through June 1 (except Memorial Day), from 7:00 to approximately 11:30. There have been some changes in WEEKEND visiting policies - If you are planning a weekend visit, I strongly encourage you to go to Denveraudubon.org to get more information and guarantee your spot by PRE-REGISTERING. Weekdays are the same as in the past - school groups arrive between 9:30 and 10; early weekday mornings are the best time for a peaceful visit with us and the birds!
