This morning's trip to several spots in the Deer Creek watershed, JeffCo, was highlighted by excellent views of an Ovenbird along High Grade Road, one among at least 8 that we heard. Others there were MacGillivray's and Virginia's Warblers, Dusky Flycatcher, Wild Turkey, fly over Red Crossbills, and others among the expected forest and oak birds. Further up at upper Pleasant Park Road and Oehlmann Park Road there were Mountain and Western Bluebirds, Brown Creeper, territorial Lincoln's Sparrows, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and a Cassin's Finch. A wet meadow area at Oehlmann Park had an unexpected Sora, as well as Wilson's Snipe.
-- Down at the lower part of Deer Creek Canyon Park at Rattlesnake Gulch Trail there were Lazuli Buntings, Blue Gray Gnatcatchers, Cooper's Hawks, and one of the epicenters of Spotted Towhee abundance. A pair of Eastern Phoebes continued at the Grizzly Drive bridge over Deer Creek. Along Grizzly Drive we studied an adult Peregrine Falcon that was perched on the same large Fountain formation outcrop where a pair of Prairie Falcons was seen the week before.
At the conclusion, the last remnant of the trip went to Robert A. Easton Park where there was success in locating a Red-necked Phalarope for the Big Month.
In the end, I think we added 7 species for the Big Month bringing the tally up to 184, with still some more trips to go.
