[cobirds] Banding at the YMCA

Hi all,

This afternoon I began my 19th year of operation of the bird banding
station at the YMCA of the Rockies south of Estes.

It was quite the eventful afternoon shortly after getting the nests set
up an adult male Northern Goshawk landed just a few yards from me while
it was being harassed by crows. The hawk did not see me, but walked
through the grass and hid under my car to get away from the crows.
After a short time, the hawk flew off with the crows following ans
scolding the raptor.

Later in the session a Band-tailed Pigeon flew into one of the nets and
was caught. it was only the second Band-tailed ever caught there.

Other birds of note caught there included American Goldfinch, Cassin's
Finches, House Finches, Pine Siskins, White-breasted Nuthatch, and House
Wren.

Not a bad first day. You can see the banding totals on the CARRI
website. www.carriep.org
