I watched 3 Red Crossbill eating grit from the dirt lot at south Heil Valley Ranch this week and it reminded me of a winters day some years past watching a sizeable flock of White winged Crossbill pecking away at a roadbed just a few short yards from the Atlantic Ocean. Carl Starace, Niwot
