Dear Interested Party,
The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland, is proposing to make a leasing decision on the Pawnee National Grassland, Weld County, Colorado. The Forest Service has prepared a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Draft Record of Decision (ROD) for this project and is providing opportunity for objection.
The Draft ROD informs the public of the decision the Forest Service is leaning toward, which is to select Alternative 3-No Surface Occupancy Alternative (NSO Alternative). This decision (if approved) will continue to make nearly all federal unleased lands on the PNG available for oil and gas leasing—approximately 100,000 acres. The only lands unavailable for leasing on the PNG will be the Pawnee Buttes and Crow Valley Campground areas—2,980 acres. This proposed decision will require that a No Surface Occupancy stipulation (NSO stipulation) be included on any future federal leases on these lands (see Attachment A of the ROD). The NSO stipulation will prohibit wells and well pads from being located on these lands.
The legal notice in the Fort Collins Coloradoan was published today, December 4. This begins a 45-day Objection Period which will end on Tuesday January 20. This is because the 45th day ends on a Sunday and the following Monday is a Federal holiday. Only those who commented on the Draft EIS have standing to object. For objection procedures, see the Draft ROD. For questions concerning the Final EIS or Draft ROD, contact Tom Ford at 970-295-6601 or tford01@fs.fed.us.
The documents are available online at: www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/PNGLeasingAnalysis (click on Project Documents).
