[cobirds] Crow Valley CG (Weld) on 10Sept2013

I finally got out to Crow Valley Campground today at about 2:30pm and birded until 5:30.  There were only a few campers, the ground was wonderfully uncrunchy due to the recent moisture, the air cool, and the place seemingly its old self.  I love that place under such conditions.  It was more birdy than it has been but still not as good as it can be in mid-September.

Highlights:
Olive-sided Flycatcher (2)
Western Wood-Pewee (at least 6)
Common Nighthawk (3, getting a bit late)
Townsend's Solitaire (at least 6, FOS at Crow Valley for me)
MacGillivray's Warbler (1)
Hammond's Flycatcher (2)
Dusky Flycatcher (1)
Swainson's Thrush (at least 4)
Hermit Thrush (2)
Cassin's Kingbird (6, sort of acted like a family group (perhaps the brood Steve M. had?))
Plumbeous Vireo (1)
Cassin's Vireo (1)
Red-eyed Vireo (1)
Empidonax sp or spp. (at least 3 I couldn't get a decent look at)
White-crowned Sparrow (2 imm. Gambel's)
Dark-eyed Junco (1 pink-sided, FOS at low elevation for me)
Cooper's Hawk (1 imm f)
Western Tanager (at least 5, all in Russian-olives)
Black-headed Grosbeak (1)
Townsend's Warbler (pretty sure I heard 1 but could never get a look)
Yellow Warbler (2)
Wilson's Warbler (20+)
Still lots of Barn Swallows overhead
no Ruby-crowned Kinglet (surprising)
no Lincoln's Sparrow (surprising)
no Red-breasted Nuthatch (surprising)
no uncommon warblers

I ran some water into the concrete water hole just n of the Group Picnic Area, so if anyone goes out there in the next few days, you might give it a look.

Total of 37 species (did not go over to Briggsdale to check on the Long-eared Owl)
