Unless I am missing something, the Drake Lake bird looks like a largish Lesser Black-backed Gull. The back is not dark enough for a SB Gull and the legs are quite yellow.
There is overlap between LBB Gull and Herring Gull in size, and I (and Joe Roller and Glenn Walbek) have all seen some pretty beefy ones during the last year or two.
